There is something mysterious and magical about a sea shell, as though they are the keepers of stories written in another language, and in another place and time. The poem Sea Shell, by Amy Lowell, captures sense of presence wonderfully:

Sea Shell, Sea Shell, sing me a song …

Of fishes and corals under the waves

And seahorses stabled in great green caves …

Sing of the things you know so well.”
